A Pile of Ashes

A Pile of Ashes

a prompted short story written by The Overlord Bear

Prompt (from r/WritingPrompts): “Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned. It has been 287 years since my last confession.”

“Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned. It has been 287 years since my last confession.”

“Hm. A vampire, then.”

“Yes. You sound like you’ve met my kind before.”

“Not really. You just smell like a pile of burning cigarettes.”

“Oh. Good point. Sorry about that. Though I could be some random crazy hobo.”

“And I have not met exorcists before. But in all seriousness, if you seek salvation, then I shall help you reach it. God loves us, after all.”

“Even vampires?”

“Even vampires. He would be happier if they wish and strive to come back to Him, though.”

“Well, it hurts, you know? I’ve always hated the pain and suffering.”

“And Our Lord suffered to save us.”

“I murdered a lot of people. I made a bunch of them like me.”

“One of our Saints was once a murderous persecutor.”

“I’ve done that deed with very young girls as well.”

“Son, are you here to brag? Or are you here for forgiveness?”

“Oh, okay. Sorry about that.”

“Any other sin you have to mention?”

“Hm.”

“…”

“Hmm.”

“…”

“I forgot. Sorry.”

“Is that so? Then I’m sure you can imagine what your penance will be, no?”

“Yes, Father. I’m sorry for the upcoming mess.”

“Worry not, son. I shall ensure that the garden is more fertile with them.”

“Ah. Thank you so much, Father.”

“You are very welcome always, son. Now, I absolve you from all your sins in the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”

“A…men…”

Author’s Note: Another vampire story, huh? Well, at least I feel smarter about it now! Praise and thank God Almighty very much again! Though at the same time, I honestly worry about whether or not I’m serving God well with stories like these, so yeah, I want that honest constructive feedback, yo! God Almighty keep on helping us all!
