a prompted short story by The Overlord Bear
Prompt (from r/WritingPrompts): “Turns out, tag between super heroes can get pretty intense.”
“STOP TELEPORTING! I CALL HAX ON YOU PSYCHICS!”
“I’m sorry, I’m just a time-space engineer! Teleport!”
“Like Scorpion says: ‘GET OVER HERE!’”
“Now that’s an actual psychic! He can also Teleport!”
“EAT MY HORSEY TORNADO!”
“NOW IT’S YEE-HAW TIME TO THE SKY TOWN ROAD!”
I watched my three friends play yet another game of tag. Lately, we had gotten into it when our dear teleporter Telly reminisced on childhood days, and then the other two, Horsepower and Buffalo Psych, responded with thoughts about how the three of them would be the most powerful participants in such a game.
And yes, the three of them. Indeed, I was quite put off by how they did not include me in that list. Of course I would be useless in a normal game of tag, but that very old game is still a very virile spawner of variations, including ones where my power can make me reign supreme.
“Oh, did you just touch me, Horsepower?” I asked with a smile as I clung upon my super speedy friend. “It appears that I am now it, then.”
He then spouted a stream of expletives as I dropped myself, an index finger pointed out at the man leashing Horsepower from right below. Buffalo Psych also spat his expletives, and he used his psychic powers to create flashes of walls that kept my body away from his.
“TELEPORT! TELEPORT! TELEPORT! YOU CAN’T TOUCH ME! YOU’LL NEVER TOUCH ME! TELEPORT!”
As I danced with Telly’s instantaneous movements in our flight within the raging winds, I laughed as they all tried to be more and more of a challenge. After all, I knew that their wonderful panic would lead to my glorious victory.
“Victory is already in my hands!” I declared as I left Telly to his devices and went for the gap in between Horsepower and Buffalo Psych.
“LET GO, YOU DUMB COWBOY!” Horsepower screamed, but he was too late.
Why? Well, repurposing a quote from a certain fictional serial killer:
“TERROR TOUCHER HAS ALREADY TOUCHED THAT FORCE!”
Such was the birth of more art.
Author’s Note: Yes, that was a JoJoke. And I still haven’t really gone through the series proper before.
