Dumbness and Smartness in Heroism and Villainy
some insomniac musings by The Overlord Bear/Jem De Ocampo
No true hero is dumb, and a dumb villain is more dangerous than a smart villain.
The smart hero is the true hero, while the dumb villain is the worst villain.
Dumb heroes? The heck are those? You mean folks like those idiots who think that silence always means death or those dumbasses who yap toxic while thinking that they’ll never be toxic as long as their targets are more toxic than them? Those are just another sort of dumb villain, man.
Heroes who are not only aware about how dumb they can be but also believe that they can do better and better? Those aren’t dumb heroes. Those are another sort of smart heroes, my friend.
Smart villains? They’re very much aware of how dumb they can be, but they’re just struggling to believe that they can do better and better. They know how much asskicking they have to get, and they hate the thought of experiencing such things, but hey, everyone hates getting their ass kicked, you know?
So, who wants some schooling? And can someone other than me and better than me help school me well some more here? I’m pretty sure humanity isn’t really self-made, see, and I still have a long way to go when it comes to becoming a truly good person.
Smartness, dumbness; heroes, villains. Good thoughts.
Here’s another – with a tip of the hat to my days of playing and DM-ing A. Dungeons & Dragons – There’s intelligence, and there’s wisdom. They’re arguably related: but far from identical.
And, on a lighter note, a *really* dumb hero from days of yore: Dudley Do-Right, the hero of tales told strictly for laughts. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dudley_Do-Right

Thanks very much again, Mr. Gill. And yeah, you got a point about intelligence and wisdom. And speaking of which, in the gifts of the Holy Spirit, knowledge and wisdom are two distinct things, too, no?
As for Dudley Do-Right, I remember having learned about him recently thanks to TV Tropes and the Dudley Do-Right Stops to Help trope, hahaha~ XD

Good question.
I had to look it up. (Catechism of the Catholic Church, http://www.vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/p3s1c1a7.htm#1830 1830-1832) Didn’t **have** to, make that wanted to.
Seems that there gifts of the Holy Spirit, and fruits of the Holy Spirit.
The gifts listed are wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord. That last is more like respect for the Lord, and that’s another topic.
Interesting – wisdom, understanding and knowledge apparently are distinct ideas.
Traditionally the Church lists 12 fruits: charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control, chastity.
Thanks for bringing that up.
