IRyS – Sparks of Joy – TOB Vocal Cover

Yeah, I’ve been waiting for an IRyS English original, alright. Also, this cover would’ve been uploaded at a later date, but today’s planned upload got delayed, and Shigeru was more of an efficiency monster than usual (Like, seriously, the freaking awesome mix here is the first version he showed me), giving me this opportunity to also go even more speed monster with this release.

As for my more detailed thoughts on the song, well, I love the happy grooviness and the scenery descriptions. And I think IRyS has more chic and charming vocals compared to my goofy and headfirst vocals. I wish she were in a casual outfit for the MV, though. And maybe it should have a turtleneck? And before I forget, I’d like to mention that steep drop from the bridge to the final chorus. That’s one tricky-ass part, alright.

Oh, and it may be a few months since the last one like this, but I feel like it’s been a while since I uploaded a vocal cover with just an mp3, hahaha~ Anyway, I’m looking for them honest constructive feedback like usual, yo!

Suisei Hoshimachi – comet – TOB English Cover

Singing Suisei Hoshimachi’s first original song is tougher than it sounds, if you ask me, especially with that softer voice she used in the original, and I guess the fact that I’m a guy with a guy voice factors in a lot there. Anyway, I think *Luna’s lyrics and Suisei’s performance deliver a more connecting vibe, while mine’s more into that self-assertion, an aspect I can imagine Suisei working well with, especially considering “Stellar Stellar.”

As for the audio engineering in this thing, MegaMat’s back, and I’m very impressed by how he managed to make the cover pack a wonderful punch with his sense of loudness especially. I hope my borderline wheezing vocals weren’t too much for you to edit, though! X”D

All that said, here’s this cover’s mp3, and here’s this cover’s lyrics sheet. Again, please credit and link me if you’re going to use my stuff, and of course, please give me honest constructive feedback!

get up, harebrain – A TOB Remix of Calliope Mori’s “guh”

On the road to learning and doing good self-deprecation, there is the struggle to differentiate it from bad self-deprecation, a.k.a. self-loathing. As appreciative as I am of a certain rapper going by the name Calliope Mori striving to go down that road well, stumbles are to be expected here and there, and “guh,” her crazy groovy and somewhat profound track dedicated to self-deprecation, ignited an urge within me to do a riskier take on its themes, because for one, I’m pretty sure that truer self-deprecation is likelier to put a status like she has right now as a hololive VTuber in danger. And I think it’s likelier that she won’t bother with this, let alone notice it, for a variety of good reasons, but there’s also me on another part of my quest to better figure out and deal with these complicated feelings I have for this woman, and getting this out here the best I can right now is my minimum goal for this production. Besides, I think I’ve also found other ways to get those other things I want. I mean, there are the other covers I’ve been and I’ll be making, for example.

And I gotta send big thanks and apologies to my collaborators here. First is Joshua Hartshorn, who enthusiastically and wonderfully remade the complicated instrumental originally produced by teniwoha. With that said, I’d also like to recommend his groovy Faceless Entertainers EP, and I hope he isn’t too bothered by the lyrics that are playing with fire. Then there’s Shigeru, who definitely had to go through my stupid bars over and over as he worked on the audio engineering for my choking vocals and all that again. And then there’s Juanny Rese, my younger sister who drew the museum piece of an illustration in the MV. I don’t think she’s in the rabbit hole (yet, probably), and I had this chance to have her draw for me basically because I bought her a Seventeen album (a mini album, to be more exact, I think?) she wanted. So yeah, again, to all my collaborators here, thank you very much, I’m very sorry for dragging you all into this bonkers production of mine, and if you have to deal with flak over this, then I hope you get way less flak than I would.

Also, yes, I did use Comic Sans on the music video for extra pain. I was also going to add some commentary on the top left part of the video, but I decided not to in the end because I considered it likely to turn into TMI…or TTMI, if you think my lyrics here are already too much for you to handle.

Still, along with the mp3, here’s the lyrics sheet. If you want to, you can use the sheet to help you cover this cover on top of having something for your reading convenience, but of course, you gotta remember to credit and link me if you’re gonna do that! If you don’t, well, for one, you’ll be taking the very punishing justice that must come to me, hahaha!

And hey, honestly, I’d love it if Calli considers me a worthy opponent of hers. But hey, what do you think? Whether or not you think I’m worthy, I think y’all can give me honest constructive feedback, and again, I’d like to ask for that.

IRyS – Caesura of Despair – TOB English Cover

So as I was prepping for this cover, the buzzG sound in the ||:Caesura of Despair EP’s title track got me thinking about “Shiwa” again and trying to sing it a bunch of times, with most of the attempts involving me breaking into tears in the middle of singing. This IRyS track doesn’t hit me as hard as that, but still, I can feel the emotions in buzzG’s songwriting and Coch’s arrangement, with IRyS’s vocals wonderfully amplifying them along with the song’s fantasy vibes (And the attaca version by Yuyoyuppe, who’s going by the DJ’TEKINA//SOMETHIG alias here, is no slouch either with its booming electronic sound).

And out of the three tracks of the ||:Caesura of Despair EP, I think this song is the easiest for me to sing, with “diorama” and “HERE COMES HOPE” following with increasing difficulty in that order, which now has me wondering if the production for the EP had such thoughts in mind while deciding the order of the tracklist and how to better present IRyS’s vocal abilities and character lore through that. As for working up the translyrics here, I guess I also made the tone a bit more active and, well, down-to-earth…which I also guess is pretty much a running thing in my English covers of the ||:Caesura of Despair EP tracks, and yes, I’ve covered all three of the EP’s tracks in English. If you want to check out the previous covers, then here’s a link to the one for “diorama,” and here’s a link to the one for “HERE COMES HOPE.”

Now, furthermore about this particular cover, I’m glad I asked Shigeru to cut the bass and boost the treble on my main vocal, and I’d also like to thank him very much for nailing those parts real well! As for the visuals, the official MV features just a short version of the track, so I had to produce an original MV. And I’d like to say that I feel very honored to have ArkFord as this cover’s illustrator! Like, y’all should see how beautifully he draws the ladies of hololive as well. So yeah, big thanks to him as well!

As for more about the fact that I’ve made English covers out of the whole ||:Caesura of Despair EP, I’d like to say that it was more fun than I expected, especially in terms of working up all those fantasy vibes along with the personal edges. There was some scuff, yeah, especially considering how these covers are among my more impulse productions, but I think I’ve been learning from that as well, though I also wish for more audience feedback to support that even further. And I’ve grown more of an appreciation for the soda-loving neph girl next door named IRyS, especially as a singer. I’d also like to reiterate my interest in hearing her sing full English originals, and I’d also like to note that while I’d love to write lyrics for at least one of those, I’ve come to realize that it would probably be harder for me to whip up lyrics from scratch than from what’s already there. Though I think I’d prefer writing original lyrics than translyrics, because while I like to think that there’s some improvement in my translation skills, I still don’t feel that confident in them, hahaha… X”D

With all that said, here’s the mp3, and here’s the lyrics sheet. Of course, please remember to credit and link me if you’re gonna use my stuff, and again, I’d like to ask for some honest constructive feedback!

IRyS – HERE COMES HOPE – TOB English Cover

So, working up my vocals for this song got me having more appreciation for IRyS’s vocal abilities. I mean, if I didn’t know better, I’d have thought her voice wouldn’t work well with a song like this. Her singing is already pretty impressive in the other two songs of the Caesura of Despair EP, but her performance here makes her and the EP stand out even further. So yeah, I’d like to describe her voice as silky steel now! 😀

Still, I’d love to sing this song with a rougher and more aggressive approach sometime instead of the cold booming I settled for here. The former approach is definitely gonna be more taxing on my throat and my mic, but I think it’ll make a more fitting vocal performance from me. Like, to be frank, I’d really love to try making the lyrics (or how I understand the lyrics) further sound as insane as they seem.

Also, it’s the return of Shigeru in my works! I’d like to send big thanks to him and his efficiency once again, alright! Special mention also goes to how he managed to make my cold booming here sound sharp!

And again, with encouragement to outdo me some more, here’s the mp3, here’s the lyrics sheet, please don’t forget to credit and link me if you’re gonna use my stuff, and please give me some honest constructive feedback!

Calliope Mori – Ijimekko Bully – TOB Vocal Cover

Indeed, I’ve been longing to cover a Your Mori. track, and now here’s one after another cover of a Calli song! This song is also one of my two favorites from Calli’s second EP, the other favorite being “Red.” And I consider Your Mori. Calli’s best work so far, especially thanks to how she manages to elevate the character play into something profound with her own personality in it. With that said, what I particularly like about “Ijimekko Bully” is how engagingly serious she expresses being a functional self-loather, and then there’s how the lightness of her voice carrying those dark lyrics makes the song sound wonderfully unsettling as well. Oh, and if you’re wondering about how I got an instrumental for this track, I got help from alfonsomusic, who did it so freaking well and so freaking quickly! Big thanks to that guy, alright!

Now, as for my approach to performing this song, well, I went for the more visceral sort of unsettling, beastly vibes included. I found that harder to express through the double-time raps, while the slow vocals were easier work. I also added harmonies into the raps. And speaking of which, I’ve been starting to further think that I may be better at vocal performance than at writing lyrics.

But even then, I gotta have good sound quality along with my recorded vocals, and I’m not really good at that stuff, so yeah, I’d like to send big thanks to MegaMat for doing audio engineering here. Special mention goes to how he blended spectral vibes into the intoxicated and maniacal vibes. It also seems like he’s quite a Dead Beat, and that may have been a factor in how smoothly this work was done. And speaking of which, maybe I should try joining that one Dead Beat Discord server sometime?

As for the visual aspects of this production, I asked for ringgopan’s help again thanks to how she draws fancy stuff so well, and yeah, I’d like to send big thanks for those really flattering drawings of me. Like, gosh dang, I look so manly along with classy, I can’t believe it. And I put her on crunch time, too! I feel so freaking humbled as well there, alright.

I also aimed to have a color scheme of black, white, and blue to accompany my more visceral take on the song. I especially enjoyed learning more about the blue rose along the way, and now I’m more curious about that one Suisei song. And I figured out how to use Camera Control on AviUtl again. Still mostly feeling my way around all that video effects and editing stuff, though. But I feel particularly confident about my work on the second verse.

Now here’s an mp3 copy of this cover. And again, please give me honest constructive feedback.

Calliope Mori – end of a life – TOB Vocal Cover

Probably the first thing that motivated me to cover this song is the fact that it has an officially released instrumental (this one’s on iTunes, and this one’s on piapro), which is rare for a Calli track. Though if that really were the first thing, I don’t think I’d have tried as much as I did to sound emotional while recording my vocals for this cover.

And speaking of sounding emotional, I start to further think again about how I may really have acting talent, for better or worse. I mean, considering how more personal this song is to Calli than it is to me and my probably more normie ass, I feel like I’d also be scared if my performance here moves you to tears or something close to that. And again, I think about why I’d want to make my life out of stuff like singing and acting, especially considering the volume of horror stories I’ve come across about the scenes there and how I could just work this office-turned-home-based job for stuff like gaming achievement hunting and anime binge-watching. And then I remember how I’d rather live life like it’s one of the pieces of fiction I indulge in, but way better, whatever that’s supposed to be. I feel like I’m already living that life I want more and more, too. Praise and thanks be to God Almighty very much again, then, and may He keep on helping us all.

Also, I’d like to send big thanks to DarkHole for doing audio engineering on this cover. I particularly like the grainy feel put into the mix, and then there’s the wonderful work on my blended vocals.

And yes, I wrote and sang some translyrics based on Calli’s “Live Again.” Maybe it’s also a teaser for a future music upload.

Now, here’s an mp3 copy of this cover. And again, I’d like some honest constructive feedback.

IRyS – diorama – TOB English Cover

This is another impulse production, and this time, you can more clearly see that it is one. I mean, for one, I sang “wherever” instead of “whenever,” a translation error I didn’t notice until the last minute. And then there’s how I sang the bridge, especially “Yes, even so, this little light.” I figured out how I should’ve made it sound at the last minute, too. And I think I also messed up in recording “Now I say, let it glitter on until it starts to melt away.” There’s a bunch more to point out, I think, but hey, the point is that that’s what I get for trying to churn out this much this fast, and that I should be more forgiving to myself while still striving to improve more and more (especially if I got the meaning of the song right), hahaha… X”D

On the other hand, my quest to make English covers out of them holoEN original songs in Japanese continues with this song by holoEN VSinger IRyS, and I still have a lot of confidence about my lyric writing and musical vocal abilities. For one, I like the grand and fantastic vibes I worked up here. There’s also the playing around I did with the “I” and “we” in the choruses. And then there are those growl moments. Also, I’d like to send big thanks to Leanna for doing the audio engineering on this cover, and special mentions go to her enhancement of the grand and fantastic vibes and to her tuning in the final chorus!

And now, with even more encouragement to outdo me, here’s the mp3, and here’s the lyrics sheet. Please don’t forget to credit and link me if you’re gonna use my stuff, too!

And of course, fire away with honest constructive feedback!

Ina’nis Ninomae – VIOLET – TOB English Cover

If Cover’s looking for lyricists who can write in English for hololive English, then I’d like to present this as another sample for that…though I don’t know how well my translyric writing skills would translate (heh) into my original lyric writing skills.

So yeah, my covers of VTuber songs are still all holos, and this new addition is the totally human girl with the totally normal name that is Ina’nis Ninomae. My voice is definitely not as comfy as hers, but I did enjoy going and lower and softer for this song with a composition by seibin and original lyrics by LUMINA. And speaking of my vocal work for this, I think the hardest parts of the vocal work here are the choral parts. I mean, for one, you’ll notice that I skimped on the bridge choir.

As for how I wrote the lyrics for this, well, I decided to write them in a way that more obviously relates to the title of the song, hahaha~ That, and whether or not I subtracted from the meaning, I definitely made a lot of additions to it, probably even more than the subtractions from it. Also, I think “It now all feels secondhand, but let the second hand on” is one of the first lines I wrote in these lyrics. And I hope that Ina likes my wordplay at least.

And again, I’d like to send big thanks to Shigeru for mixing and mastering for me. And I’d like to give special mention to his work on them choral parts and those interlude lines. Freaking beautiful work yet again, yo, and with such amazing work speed as well!

With all that said, here’s the mp3, and here’s the lyrics sheet. Again, please credit and link me if you’re gonna use my stuff~

And of course, please feel free to give me honest constructive feedback!

I Shared a Kiss with Calliope Mori – A TOB English Remix

Happy First Anniversary to hololive English, holoMyth, and last but not least, Calliope Mori, the rapping Reaper who was also the very first to debut in holoEN and holoMyth. It’s a late greeting, but considering what I made, well, maybe the world’s lucky that this wasn’t posted on time, hahaha~ X”D

Anyway, I made a remix just for her, and it’s a remix of Mikito-P’s “Boku wa Hatsune Miku to Kiss wo Shita,” which is also known in English as “I Shared a Kiss with Hatsune Miku.” The original’s more wholesome than it sounds, and I’d like to say the same about my remix, but I feel like I’d be overconfident there, to be honest. Still, I wanna get this and more out there and see where all that stuff will go as far as I can.

Now, I’d like to send my thanks to the three people I commissioned to help with this production: Shigeru for the mix and mastering, Denyel for the illustrations, and Lance for the video. Also, I’d like to send you my apologies for any potential weird looks from others thanks to your involvement in my antics.

And yeah, I’m feeling kinda tight-lipped here, and I’d rather have my work speak for me more, so yeah, here’s the mp3, and here’s the lyrics sheet. Again, please credit and link me if you’re gonna use my stuff, and I’d love some honest constructive feedback. God Almighty keep on helping us all, too.
