Milestones, Turning Points, and Activity Updates – October 2016

Yo there, peeps. The Overlord Bear is here for a monthly update post again. Also, I should get back on schedule on Wandering Weiss, which I’ll certainly do on Tuesday.

Anyway, this month has been filled with fanfiction writing and song covers. Special mention goes to making that video for my cover of my friend Wata’s “absurd,” my “Souzou Forest” retake cover for Jin’s/Shizen no Teki-P’s birthday, and then there’s my consecutive weekly updating of Wandering Weiss, which got broken at the last Tuesday of the month.

As for school, I’ve gone past the midterm point of the current semester. Learning is still interesting, but I have struggles with trying to get to school on time in the morning. I tend to spend too much time on surfing the Net and doing stuff with my computer on nights before school days, and the price I pay for that is heavy, indeed. I need help with that, alright.

As for other aspects of life in my house, the importance of chores and family bonding continues to be learned with the help of struggles. It’s like exercise (which I haven’t been doing much, ugh), in which it’s painful but worthwhile, especially when learned properly. Also, dish sorting, dishwashing, floor sweeping, floor mopping, trash bag disposal, and dog-crap-cleaning are the chores I’ve been doing lots in my house lately. Oh, and I think that my bond with my younger sister is improving, mostly thanks to art, stories, and stuff.

I also feel like my bonds with some close friends of mine are growing again. We’ve had some freaking worthwhile chats recently, yo!

Also, this month has been filled with reblogs about Makoto Shinkai’s “Kimi no Na wa.”/”Your Name.” Really, it’s one of my favorite movies now, and if you have interest in watching it, I highly recommend watching it without being spoiled beforehand. I also wrote a fanfic for it, too, one that’s set after the events of the movie and is shown through Yotsuha’s perspective. Oh, and then there’s RWBY Volume 4. Hanging around the RT upload comments and the Professor Arc Forum got me reading mixed reviews, with important points for thought mostly coming from the latter…which is also a place filled with shenanigans…shenanigans that I also participate in, for better or worse…

Okay, so now, I’d like to give shout-outs to certain peeps:

And now, as this post is nearing its end, here’s a list of the stuff that I posted on this blog this month:

So yeah, see you again in the den, peeps. Honest constructive feedback is highly encouraged and will be highly appreciated. 🙂

P.S. Here are some things to look forward to in this blog in the coming days:

  • More song covers, including at least one English cover
  • That one original song of mine and its music video that I should start working on
  • More Wandering Weiss updates, though there’s a chance of them not going weekly ’cause of the currently airing RWBY Volume 4
  • An original short story…probably…

For Jin-san’s birthday, Tobby tried to sing Souzou Forest again

This is a late upload, with me having decided to make it a day before Jin’s birthday (which, I guess, is better than uploading it ten days earlier). Still, I’m confident in this retake of a song that’s freaking dear to me. I find my voice sounding better with a raised key, and I think I can say that the audio quality of this is better than my previous attempt at covering this song. Also, this cover has no harmony track, as I think that my singing sounds more natural that way.

Oh, and even though I can’t really watch it, I’m freaking excited about the KagePro MX4D movie! Special mention goes to sidu having the director role and to the character designs, yo~ Also, I wanna sharpen up my Japanese skills and properly get my own copies of the light novels and the manga! Oh, and then there’s Mekakucity Reload! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee…

Ah, and speaking of KagePro, I might do rearrange covers of Momo’s songs sometime…and emphasis on “might,” ’cause I got other things I gotta focus on, like school and homework, household chores, and that one music video I haven’t started working on yet.

Okay, so now, here’s this cover’s mp3, yo! \(^o^)

And of course, honest constructive feedback is highly encouraged and will be highly appreciated! 🙂

Tobby tried to sing Setsuna Plus

Yo yo yo, after more than a month, which included suffering sore throat and runny nose and all that crap, I’m back with a song cover! This time, it’s Mikito-P‘s “Setsuna Plus”!

So, this one had its recordings untouched for a while, maybe a month or more, ’cause I was thinking of having someone else mix this cover. Eventually, though, I became more confident in my mixing skills and in trying to do trial-and-error with mixing, which is why I ended up mixing this myself. I worked my own sound engineering into the unmastered instrumental of this song, too, ’cause Tomodachi Boshuu-P’s instrumental mastering was too loud for me. Oh, and I’d like to know what you think of my mix as well, dear peeps!

Ah, and speaking of audio mastering, which I need to learn about some more along with other stuff about audio engineering, I’ve been trying to do that with the unmastered versions of various offvocal tracks lately. Using the equalization and the compressor in Audacity has never been that fun before, yo! And hey, if you have tips that you’d like to give, then feel free to give them!

Now, here’s the mp3 of this cover.

Honest constructive feedback is highly encouraged and will be highly appreciated! \(^o^)

Kimi no Na wa. (Your Name.) Write-up

I watched this movie recently, and freaking nuts, I found it a freaking enjoyable emotional rollercoaster.

· MagnAvaloN ·

Of all the things that have been dubbed a “national phenomenon” in Japan this year, Makoto Shinkai’s Kimi no Na wa. (Your Name.) is probably the most appropriate for the title. At the time I’m writing this, Your Name. has already become Japan’s highest grossing film of 2016  — even Anno Hideaki’s Shin Godzilla, Koe no Katachi movie, and Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso’s live action movie couldn’t hope to compare. Your Name. is now a part of Japan’s all-time box office top 10, sitting at the 7th ranking (11.1 billion yen) while slowly crawling to beat Ghibli’s “The Wind Rises”. That’s a pretty fantastic feat to be accomplished by an animated movie. Not to mention, the movie has received a lot of critical acclaims and massive popularity on the side of creators, fans of Shinkai’s works, mainstream anime fans, and the general public. The sales of the novel released before…
